I want to get stonger in Taekwondo?

I am currently a white belt in Taekwondo. I am testing tomorrow for my Low Yellow belt, I am already doing knuckle push-ups. But I do them on my knees. My instructor says that only females can do the push-ups on their knees. But I want to get stronger. I have checked out a DVD from the library called Fat burning kickboxing workout. Should I be watching the DVD and do you think it will help me with my taekwondo? I weight 167 lbs I am 5 ft 2 inches. And I am 22 years old. I just started taekwondo about 3 months ago. How can i be more cempetitive during my tournaments? I have a tournament coming up on saturday which I am going to attend. I wont be sparring until I am a yellow belt. And I will be doing my form and one steps. I don%26#039;t want to keep doing push-ups on my knees i want to be able to do them with out being on my knees|||Yo. I do not recommend doint some cardio kickboxing. I doubt it will help with TKD as it is meant for only cardio and might screw up with your technique if you do not pay attention. But you can do shadow boxing, which is practicing punching/kicking combos infront of a mirror. With pushups, just practice it. The secret to doing well in martial arts or in anything is repition. The more pushups you do, the better you%26#039;ll get at it. I recommend doing pushups with a nice number every day before you go to sleep. I have been doing 40 knuckle pushups and then 10 finger pushups everynight for a few months and i can tell the difference. 50 pushups isnt much for me, but I have been doing them everyday including the ones I%26#039;ve done at TKD school, so it adds up. Start with a number you%26#039;re comfortable with and do both open and knuckle pushups. I would suggest more open pushups than knuckles.

When doing forms, the only competition is yourself. Focus on every technique and do your best for each one.

Good luck.|||What bloody stupid nonsense to suggest kicking trees, and that is from a 4th Dan? Get out of here!

Use a bag, or even better, a partner with a kicking shield, that is far more realistic, it is also a moving target, let this guy kick trees, I put $1000 on the tree anytime, even so it is not moving, it will break the guys legs.

The best exercises are working on your core strength. Exercise closely to the motions used in TKD. Remember, the force generated behind a punch or kick is not the muscle strength in a particular group of muscles such as the triceps, it is a product of mass and speed. You need to learn to get your body weight behind the punches and kicks, this requires the right stance, lots of hip rotation, tensing and relaxing at the right moments. I have seen 60+ year old at 60kg hitting harder and faster than much younger and heavier counterparts, because of right body alignment, sequential movements, and speed.

Stay flexible, work on strength in your lower back and abdomen, abductors and adductors, and hamstrings and hip flexors.

A strong tricep won%26#039;t give you a hard punch, rotating your hip into the technique and thus throwing your body weight behind it, that is what makes you a hard puncher.|||Every thing the first guy said is good but I%26#039;m just writing this because of concern.

DO NOT KICK A TREE.

Haha...

But I%26#039;m being serious.

This would just cause an injury.

If you must kick something, kick a heavy bag.|||Im a 4th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Doe... My advice for you is to do free weight lifting, stretch oftenly and stay flexible, and practice practice practice!!! I use to to practice with trees... By kicking trees ect...........|||In taekwondo, you shouldn%26#039;t have a strong emphasis on your arms, rather your legs and flexibility. If you want to work out your arms, hit the gym and do tricept extensions, centered or widened push ups, or dips.

During Sparring there are a few key factors to keep in mind. Always check the patterns of your enemies. Do they hit you with a single kick and back off, do they use a certain combination on you? Use this information to counter. In countering always keep in mind that avoiding an attack is better than blocking and that countering an attack is even better. Likewise dont leave yourself to become predictible. Change up your attack patterns, Use one kick and then stop, next time use two. Change around your patterns.

Run Run Run. The best way to build muscle is by elevating your heart rate and then lifting weights or doing push ups to strengthen your arms. Run for perhaps half a mile and then start doing push ups or hit the treadmil in a gym and then do arm excercises. this gives you aerobic excercises to give you endurance during sparring and also builds muscle

I really dont see the need for the DVD but I do believe it could be used effectively.

Good Luck on your test

What do you think of Matt Fiddes Taekwondo?

As in the his style/school, not Taekowndo in general.

Ever heard of it?|||Never heard of it.|||Never heard of it. Who is he? What is unique about %26quot;his%26quot; TKD?|||No i havent herd of it

Is Oliver Ledesma, represents Philippine in taekwondo held in Thailand sea games?

I think this is a good question. I%26#039;ll try to find the answer and get back soon.

What TaeKwonDo Studio in the Flower Mound/Highland Village area would you tell a 13 year-old to go to?

I am currently a purple belt (I have been going to WinKids and the belts are WAY diffrent). I have been on the demo team for 1 and a half years out of my 7 years of being there, and the reason I am moving is because I HATE my new coach. My old coach didn%26#039;t make us practice our form 50 million times and do nothing for the rest of class. My parents have remarked on how diffrent we act when he is around, and when other coaches are with us. My coach is pregnant with her second child, and I don%26#039;t want to be alone with my new coach. He REALLY scares me. I am currently checking places like Highland Village TaeKwonDo of America, but I want to do Judo(throwing) instead of TaeKwonDo(sparring). My parents agree with me that I may go to a diffrent place as long as it does not cost a fortune to be in the tournaments, be belt tested, or our gear. At HVTKD, I can test ahead of time and be a brown, then a black. I need any suggestions, and the price for classes and website with the answer please.|||here are a few, i don%26#039;t know where they are in relation to you, but here are a few suggestions.

i%26#039;m guessing that this may be Taekwondo America style, have you thought about ITF or WTF styles??

I train in WTF style, it is great fun, and if you want sparring, WTF style is the Olympic event.

Good luck with what ever you choose.|||i recommend taking kickboxing and boxing. buy some ufc style gloves and get a group of friends and have competions. PRACTICE makes perfect. tkd its self is a weak martial art. by some focus mitts, thai pads watch k1, try learning from different source (videos books, instrustors), 9 out 10 instructors would prolly get beat down in a street fight . to be a complete fighter learn all the aspects of fighting ground and stand up. try wrestling, jujitsu and kickboxing, work the elbows knees headbutts %26quot;dirty boxing works well%26quot; natural talent helps. believe me if you know how to fight in all aspects it will boost your confidence and you will in what ever style competion you decide to fight in.|||Dont know, but HI!!!

im a longhorn too and i live around there!!

RMC|||Chris M. a person who trained in ITF Tae Kwon Do can defend himself in a fight. Every martial art is effective in a fight. A true martial artist does not insult another martial art.|||The good thing is that most martial arts studios offer free introductory lessons.

If you have several in your area to choose from , you may spend some time trying all of their free intro classes until you find a style / instructor you are comfortable with.

Remember , there are no bad styles , but their are bad instructors , so don%26#039;t let your oppinion of an instructor sway you away from any particular martial art.

If you want to do Judo , you should definiitely do Judo.

I am a Tae Kwon Do instructor.|||By the sounds of it, you just want good training from anywhere that is not a McDojo or black belt factory that is simply after your money.

I would suggest you look into any martial art school regardless of the style they teach. Keep an open mind by not limiting yourself to particular styles and look for a good instructor.

Just remember belts don%26#039;t mean as much as you think. You may have to start over in belt ranks, because belts usually do not transfer over from one discipline to an other.

With that said, you may want to give Judo a shot just like you said you wanted to.

Taekwondo Matos shoved the referee and kicked him in the head ?

what are peoples thoughts on this I am particularly interested in what current practitioner%26#039;s think of his actions and how much it has damaged the image of their Art ? I have included an ex cert from the bbc report on it .

also is the ban justified ?

Matos shoved the referee and kicked him in the head in a furious reaction.

The Cuban took gold in the 2000 Olympics, but he did not take kindly to being disqualified halfway through the bout for taking too long to return to action after an injury.

|||Regardless of what happened he shouldn%26#039;t have kicked the ref.

He not only has got himself a life time ban but dishonoured himself and his art all over the world through media coverage.

Can he call himself a true martial artist now ?

All that for loss of temper in the heat of the moment, well he%26#039;ll have the rest of his life to ponder on it with regret no doubt :(

Best wishes :)***|||He absolutely must be disqualified for life. He did not just breach the rules of his sport or cheat, like faking being fouled in football or a late or high tackle, he physically assaulted someone. He committed a criminal act. He could have seriously injured the ref. I watched footage of the kick and it looked like a glancing blow but what if the ref had fallen back and banged his head? To anyone who thinks his action was ok I would ask what actions you feel anyone can take towards anyone else if they feel they have been wrongly treated. If I felt that you have wronged me can I then assault you and to what extent? |||He must have bought his Black Belt, because he has no control,or discipline.I am a practicing Goju-Ryu stylist for 35 yrs.I am a Go Dan(5th degree black belt) that kind of action would never be excused by my Master or other practicioner%26#039;s.The ban is justified. You don%26#039;t throw a temper tantrum because things didn%26#039;t go your way.Sometimes there might be a bad call,or even call%26#039;s.We have to suck it up,and move on,and accept the referee%26#039;s action. That is part of the game we chose to play.Take care, and rock on!|||It certainly damaged HIS image, his coaches image, and his country%26#039;s since that is what he was representing. It has not damaged tae kwon do as an art. In my opinion he should be banned for life. He was aware of the rules and under no circumstances should he have threatened the judges or hit a referee.|||i watched this particular match ,but for the injury time out the Cuban would have won.his behaviour was disgrace full and no discredit to Taekwondo, the art is great ,he put himself down and his coach.the penalty was justified ,no one can assault the referee and get away with it|||I%26#039;m glad he got disualified, he totally deserved it! I%26#039;m not that angry though, I don%26#039;t like the WTF style in general. I do traditional ITF style. Ya, I totally agree with Rob B. I don%26#039;t like the idea of doing taekwondo as a sport. I do it for the self defence.|||First and foremost, using your art to hurt someone outside a self-defense situation is disgraceful.

Attacking a sports official is unforgivable.

So yes, I agree with a lifetime ban. |||the cubans made a bad name for themselves in fighting. in boxing it was a british man vs a cuban man and at one point the cuban bit him on the shoulder while in a clinch

gb still went on to get gold|||I wish he had done more. I can see why he did it and i think he acted out of temper of the qualty of refs. He should not have done it but i think what he did has changed people views of refs in all tourniments.|||*Disqualification

*Banned for life from WTF

*Records of the Beijing Olympics erased

I think they should of added

*Jail time|||He has been banned for life from all WTF events, World Championships, Pan Am Games, Olympics, etc. I think this is a fair and justified punishment.

While I think the center referees did fine in the TKD tournament, the 4 corner judges did poor job throughout the tournament on what is/is not a point. Way too much controversy on points. They seemed to only award points for rear leg round kicks at full contact. I saw a lot of front leg round kicks that were not counted, and even several head kicks that were not counted. It didnt appear to favor one fighter over another, it just seemed that they were not awarding points.

As for the Cuban%26#039;s future, there are other TKD associations. He will probably still work with and help train other Cuban athletes, but won%26#039;t be able to attend.

I think his coaches are to blame. They have an injury time clock and they need to watch it.

That being said, I think you can continue with a broken toe. He was standing up as time expired, and his trainers were getting ready to get off the mat. Not to mention he was leading 3-2.

The other guy starts celebrating like he knocked him out, when really he was losing.

By the letter of the law, the ref was right. But I know I would be pissed off too.

But....no matter how ticked I was, I would not have kick the ref in the face.

In contrast, Nigerian Bronze Medalist Chika Chukumerije was a class act throughout. Even bowing to the ref when receiving a deduction point. He was one of the most exciting fighters of the tournament too.

James|||i agree with what the cuban done he shouldnt have be disqualified

Is there any possibility the Taekwondo matches at the Olympics will be broadcast?

Yes, NBC has said they%26#039;ll broadcast every event on one of their 7 channels. Chances are, you%26#039;ll only see Americans and then the medal matches though.|||yes...but only the american ones.

What are the major Taekwondo schools in Seoul?

I am visiting Seoul for 2-3 months. I would like to practice Taekwondo.

What are some of the Taekwondo Academies in Seoul? Are there any links on the web? Most links I googled were in Korean.

btw I have a black belt so I am looking for something tough.

Thank you :)

||| there are many taekwondo academines in seoul.

you can find it everywhere in seoul easily.

for reference, if you know korean, you%26#039;d to visit this website.
