Can I retain my yellow belt in Taekwondo after 2 years out?

I trained and acheived yellow belt though had to move away. I am thinking of going back to Taewkondo but am unsure of whether i will start at white again or retain yellow?!|||Really, you should not have your rank taken away. Once you%26#039;ve been promoted you are a yellow belt, this is the same with any rank. Nobody can take that away from you.

That said you might be a pretty bad yellow belt since. that%26#039;s what two years of training and then you were out for two years? This would only be the case if you did not practice on your own, and you need to be truthful with yourself as to how much you%26#039;ve trained.

So, what needs to happen is when you get back in you may have to start your training over to build yourself back up to yellow skill. Therefore, you would be a yellow belt in the white belt class until you regain the skill you need to progress. This would make you the senior student in the class so you need to pay extra attention how you behave. Once you reach your previous level then you should move on to the yellow belt requirements so you can prepare for the next level.

You cannot have anybody take your rank away, though you may stay in it longer to get back to proper level for your next advancement.|||Just work hard and keep at it! Thanks for the recognition. Keep your chin up even when you start to doubt yourself. Good Luck getting back in the game! Report Abuse
|||No.

You haven%26#039;t trained for 2 years.

And by your post, I am guessing you will go to a different school.

So, again...No.

You were a yellow belt (in TKD)...so you are only a few months away from a test. If you kept some of your ability and you train hard, you might jump up to the next rank.

If you were a black belt, I might give you a different answer.... but a yellow belt? sorry. You should go back to white.|||Why worry about it...go to the club with a little bit of inside knowledge and experience and then become a better yellow belt.

Better to take five years to gain you first degree at a good club than having your belt posted to you because they think you should be a black belt.

Anyone can buy a black belt, very few earn it !|||Why would you train Taekwondo?

Seriously, try to remember anything you learned...Dress up in your Dobuk and try the 3 forms (poomse) that you should know. if you can%26#039;t you are a white belt. But think of it this way... Your cup is empty for the next one to fill.|||While I don%26#039;t take TKD I%26#039;m know that yellow belt is fairly low in the system. It couldn%26#039;t hurt to go in there and get a refresher starting from white could it? Ask yourself how much you have practiced in the time you%26#039;ve been gone and go from there. Good luck|||Different clubs and organisations have different rules. I have moved round loads and have a collection of belts in judo and jiu jitsu. Some let you carry on from where you were, some make you start again.|||why worry about the belt - its not a race to blackbelt, better to train consistently and let the belts come and go - aim to be well trained. ask ur instructor to consider your story anyway.|||I would make you retest. If you still knew your form and one steps I would let you keep it and start from their after a few classes to brush up.|||You instuctor should test you and see if you can. They may put you back a grade and get you to re-test.
