What should i take taekwondo or kickboxing?

i%26#039;ve never taken any martial arts/fighting classes in my life, only dance classes(i take ballet and hip hop). i%26#039;m wondering what is the better one to take or if you guys can suggest anything else for me? what should i expect if i take classes like this (ex. bruises)?

i want to take fighting classes in order to make myself stronger and be able to defend myself.|||Taekwondo is much better for girls, it is famed for its employment of kicking techniques, which distinguishes it from martial arts such as karate or certain southern styles of kung fu. The rationale is that the leg is the longest and strongest weapon a martial artist has, and kicks thus have the greatest potential to execute powerful strikes without retaliation successfully.

Physically, taekwondo develops strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina.

Some of the best-known taekwondo techniques include:

Front Kick

Side Kick

Roundhouse Kick

Hook Kick

Axe Kick

Crescent Kick

Jump Kicks

Spin Kicks

Snap Kick|||neither take muay thai if you want to fight.but why do you want to fight?fighting and self defence arn%26#039;t the same thing.

liz.m please don%26#039;t give us a bad name.|||Take up oragami and fold people into wedding invitations|||well i took ballet and hip hop for 9 years and i am in taekwondo. its a hard workout but ive gotten alot stronger. and you learn many ways to defend yourself in any situation. so i would try taekwondo. its really fun. :D|||I think you might like Ninjutsu - Ninja.

I do it here in australia.

Yes you will get bruises, but ninja

is about using your own bodyweight[momentum]

against any attack and you also learn weapons

like knife, sword so u can defend both unarmed

and armed[say with moneybox] against attacks.

It is an old japanese art.

The term %26quot;kickboxing%26quot; is used to describe a wide variety of styles from Tae Bo to Muay Thai %26amp; lots of things in between, so I have no way of knowing what you are refering to.|||Kick-boxing is best for street fight.|||Anything is an improvement on nothing. Here are some other styles you may wish to consider.

Kajukenbo

CHA 3 kenpo

Wado ryu karate

Muay thai kickboxing

Escrima (kali,arnis,penjak silat)

Choy li fut kung fu

jujutsu|||If you consider Muay Thai as kickboxing, take it. Muay Thai train more realistic than Tae Kwon Do. You may want to check out some of K-1 Max fight on youtube.

Also Tae Kwon Do has been overcommericalized, overmarketed, and heavily watered down, so it%26#039;s more of a show art than fighting art.

In Muay Thai class, expect your shins to be really ugly for first 3 to 6 months because you%26#039;ll have to condition them. It%26#039;ll be painful but once it%26#039;s conditioned, your shin will be as hard as a bat and you%26#039;ll be able to use it as both offensive and defensive weapon with great effective. Also you%26#039;ll learn how to use many different part of body as a weapon such as elbows, hands, feet, shin, knees, and clinch. They will have you train at full strenghtness when it come to pads or bag work.

Hope this help some.|||if you got the cardio i say go with kick-boxing it%26#039;s way better and a lot more technical tae-kwo-do is a flash art it%26#039;s fun but not that effective take kick-boxing you won%26#039;t be disappointed|||taekwondo is definitely better..it is suitable for both male and females..it is also very powerful as most techniques are more complex than most martial arts...
