I have seen some people weating belts that are half red half black running the length of the belt. Is this another version of Cho Dan Bo (red belt black tip) or is there some other meaning to it?
Why is there a difference?|||I am really curious as to where BPShark got that information. Not only does my studio not go in that order, they have extra colors and not %26quot;tags.%26quot; I trained at an American studio that was both WTF and ITF (very unusual) and it didn%26#039;t go in that order either. Before that I trained at another WTF American studio that went in a different order, as well.
If the Kukkiwon and WTF only recognize those belts, than the vast majority of studios in South Korea are doing it wrong. You%26#039;d think they%26#039;d notice, being in South Korea and all. For the record, the Kukkiwon is responsible for dan grades, NOT gups.
Bekka, It depends on the school, but in South Korea that%26#039;s a poom belt, given to %26quot;junior%26quot; black belts, ie, people under a certain age. (Poom, not poomse. Poomse/poomsae/頀堨儓 is the set of forms. Poom/poome/頀?is the name of the belt.)
Belts are different because %26quot;taekwondo%26quot; does not have one unifying body with one unifying set of rules.|||not really, it%26#039;s usually how the organization that the school is affiliated with determines how their belt ranking system is going to differ from another school or organization.|||just a differnt style no other meaning|||For the same reason they have different gis, money.|||There are many different TKD organization. The founder of an association generally decides on the belt sequence for his organization. In many schools, there seem to be more different belt colors than I thought there were colors. It can get ridiculous. There should be 9 levels before black belt %26amp; 9 levels of black belt.|||Ninedemon basically got it right. The more belts, the longer they keep the guy in school and the more they make off of them.|||thats all fake after a while some schools totaly f things up and turn away from tradtional belt systems
white
yellow
orange
green
blue
purple
red
brown
black
schools differ but the ones with black or any color tips on there belts arent tradtional belts|||The governing body for Tae Kwon Do and the world registry (kukkiwon) only recognize the folowing ranks:
white belt- 10 Kyup
yellow tags- 9 kyup
yellow belt- 8 kyup
green tags- 7 kyup
green belt- 6 kyup
blue tags- 5 kyup
blue belt- 4 kyup
red tags- 3 kyup
red belt- 2 kyup
black tags- 1 kyup
Black belts from 1st dan to 9th dan
Poomse belt is trhe belt your are describing and it means that the wearer is a junior black belt (black belt under 16 years of age) once he or she reaches the age he can change it to full black. ITF also recognizes the same ranks. If your school uses anything else than that while teaching TKD they are doing it wrong.|||It really depends on the organization.
A lot of people gave all these angry answers because they had a bad experience with a Tae Kwon Do school, because they can%26#039;t do Tae Kwon Do, or because they have been beat up by someone who knows Tae Kwon Do!|||To make more moneys off students. Think about this
If you get 100 bucks per belt test plus extra 50 dollars a belt. The test is every 3 months. Lesson per month is 50. So for three months plus belt test and belt, you will get about 300 dollars. If there%26#039;s 10 belts, you%26#039;ll get 3,000 dllars after the student accomplish all belts. So if you add other 5 belts, you%26#039;ll get extra 1,500 which mean you%26#039;ll get 4,500.
So the school keep add on more and more belts so they can make more moneys per students.
beside that, think about this, people like reward and prize no matter how small or easy it is. So if they keep getting something tangible from the class and their ego stroked, they%26#039;ll want to stay more. That is a good way to keep in students with low esteem.|||I did tkd fora month, i didnt get past a wite belt, butin my judoo school there are only basically 4 belts white, yellow, brown, and black. which are free after you past the test.|||Belts are not going to do anyone any good in the street, anyway.|||It%26#039;s probably a Poom Belt. Junior Black Belts wear them in some organizations. AAU has them, and you can find out a little more about them in their rules and reg%26#039;s book.|||Because some taekwondo students are fatter than others?
