Should I use a free standing punch bag or a strike shield for home Taekwondo practise?

I live in a large-ish house, but with very little space to put large things, i only need one for training at home or i would have to drive for 2 hours to get to the training centre.|||A shield relies on there being someone to hold it, not to mention change position depending on the type of kick or strike your practising.

I%26#039;d suggest that for home practice a free standing punch bag would allow you more freedom and felxibility to develop your kicks without having to rely on someone else being around at the same time to hold a shield.

Just my opinion though.|||If you can only have one thing for Taekwando at home I would recommend a free standing bag for practicing kicks and punches. Don%26#039;t skimp, buy a heavy and large one and fill the base with play sand. The extra weight will help when you use it for punches.

A 70 pound heavy bag is a good choice as well. You can find free standing frames that accommodate a heavy bag, a speed bag, and a bag suspended on bungees. This arrangement only has a foot print of about four square feet; add a freestanding heavy bag and you have a foot print when stored of about four by seven feet. You would have a complete punching and kicking system.|||use a garage rafter beam of choice...

tools you will need:

-Drill with 3/4 or 5/8 wood bits.

-wrench to tighten bolts,

-Pliers, peferrably %26quot;channel locks%26quot;

-maybe a screwdriver of phillips screwdriver

-hammer

-gloves

-ladder or car, van, truck :)

-1 strong adjustable Chain to hang punching-bag. The chain should have some type of hook-locking, latch-on-type aparatus on each end. You can find them at Home Depot or Lowes. I don%26#039;t know where you live, babe. hehe

3/4 or 5/8 both with washer and nut

make sure to buy the strong bolt with a %26quot;Loop-end%26quot; for latching a chain to it.

What to do:

Drill your hole into the roof rafter beam or use a ceiling joist beam. now as long as it is in good shape with no noticeable dry rought, you%26#039;ll be fine.

Insert Bolt. slide washer on, tighten the nut, firmly.

[ righty tighty, lefty loosey] lmao

Hook chain to bolt, then have someone help you lift the bag to latch it unto the chain locks.

if you have drywall ceiling, just find a way inside. use a drywall saw to cut a tiny hole for the CHAIN to hang through it. Be neat about it if possible. I may come over to help you! HAHAHA

well, guess what?

I kid you not...we are installing the same thing in our garage. we have all the stuff, so that%26#039;s my new teenee tiny baby project.|||I would recommend the free standing punch bag if possible.

Try to get to the training centre as often as you can. 2hrs seems a bit far.

good luck|||definitely the bag, its too hard to find someone to hold it for you when you want to practice.|||A solid punch bag.|||punch bag :)
