I want to do hapkido but i am also doing taekwondo?

hapkido looks great and seems a more realistic martial art to undertake for self defence than taekwondo. i am enjoying taekwondo but i would love to do hapkido as well. however, i dont think i%26#039;ll have enough time since i work 4 times a week, i have lots of homework from school and i take taekwondo once a week on saturday. i dont think i could juggle everything to make it fit so what can i do?|||i have taken both arts and i just wanted to let you know that hapkido is derived from tae kyon (one of the many of the fore fathering forms of tkd) and daito ryu aiki-jujitsu. I had alot of fun with this art we learned joint manipulation, joint locks and lots of weapons katana, knife, k-bo, jo staff, and the walking cane which was interesting. And when we practiced our kicks they were all tkd style(spinning stepping and aerial kicks ). i know that you can use any martial art as a self defense but this one is more from the self defense aspect in class we would actually practice the techniques on each other. the art made me look at martial arts totally different. If you can find a good school you might want to think about switching maybe. I hope my input helps with your question.|||Maybe you can look online like google hapkido and you can sometimes find good videos online and you can practice a few minutes each day when you get a chance|||In my most honest opinion, try the Hapkido!!

If you do not like it you can always go back to your TKD yes? MOST TKD around the USA are not that great sorry to say, there are some good ones mind you of course but so many that are not it gives the good ones a bad rep. Hapkido is not so and I think you will get better training there! Having some TKD knowledge will help you when you do kicks in Hapkido!|||I guess, depending on your age if you%26#039;re looking for a more realistic martial art you should take up mixed martial arts which will teach you everything from Jhi jitsu, muay thai, vale tudo, boxing/kickboxing,wrestling etc. depending where you get your lessons from. Its very realistic for any real life scenario and could really come in handy one day or you could even attempt to pursue a career in MMA.|||Don%26#039;t waste your time with TKD and leave the McDojo.|||Maybe try to look for more of a mixed school. We practice a combination of hapkido, taekwondo, and judo in our school. Look around. You might find a better fit.

BTW, you%26#039;re right, hapkido seems very useful in realistic situations. We all like it alot!|||id suggest going for the hapkido. having a backround in tkd, you will have a head start with other beginners in the style... korean kicking is korean kicking... this will allow you to focus on the locks and throws alittle more.

its amazing to see how different aikido and judo/jujutsu is when mixed with korean martial arts... very effective..and fun|||first, know taekwando n hapkido attributes well.

Taekwondo emphasizes more on attacking rather than defence while hapkido(Korean aikido , obvious from the Kanji) is more like taichi, using the force of the opponent as your own.

TKD is more aggressive compared to hapkido n more initiative in terms of attacking.

Look at these attributes and see which one suits u best then decide which one do u wanna follow.

or best yet, but tiring.. finish off most small homeworks during classes when there are opportunities n chances. and u%26#039;ll be more free when u get off school. then theres more time for more things.
