Is shotokan karate and taekwondo good fighting techniques which one is better?

in my college those are the only two taught here so i am taking both which one is better are they pretty good?|||Which one do you like more. Ask yourself which one you can see your self doing four years down the road. Both are good arts and great have great fundamentals that would help you along later if you decide you want to switch arts later. I personally would suggest striking with the shotokan, but that is just me.

Which one has the instructor or fellow students that you like more? That is another key to what you should look for. If you click in one more than the other stick with the one that you can relate to the fellow artists more.

Good luck and let us know :)|||There is no difference. After Japan left Korea, (after WWII) there was much anti-Japanese sentiment in Korea, as there is in most occupied nations when the Occupying force leaves. The Korean Shotokan sensei first renamed their system Tang Soo Do (China Hand Way) from Karate Do (China Hand Way), then later to Taekwondo after the lost martial method of Medeival Korea. I%26#039;m not saying the Korean sensei didn%26#039;t change anything after WWII, they did, they expanded the kick repetoire, but Taekwondo is still, at it%26#039;s root a Korean school of the Okinawan Funakoshi%26#039;s Shotokan system.||| Taekwondo strongly focuses Kicking techniques only and does not

cover many perspectives of a fight.

Karate has more Striking techniques and is very leathal.

It incorporates Punching, Kicking, Elbow and Knee strikes.

It depends what style of Karate they%26#039;re teaching but they also

may teach some locks, throws and restraint holds .

I stronly suggest you train in Karate. Good luck !|||I have done Goju Karate and Tae Kwon Do and I will tell you Karate is slightly better from a practical perspective. TKD is great for beating people up but the best martial art I have been involved with by FAR is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). It is all about joint manipulation and leverage and is the most practical martial art I have seen. With 6 months trg I have learned enough to completely neutralize my friends in Karate and TKD. If you watch UFC the guys who are really good on the ground (where most fights end up) are the BJJ guys.|||if you talk to a shotokan person they will tell you shotokan.

if you talk to a tkd person the will tell you tdk.

they would both have there reason why one is better then the other.

i do shotokan and like it better but thats just my option that all it is.

neither style is better then the other they both have there pro%26#039;s and con%26#039;s

to but it in simple terms tkd is the korean version of karate

tkd emphasizes more kicks, it%26#039;s about a 60% kicking.

shotokan is know for its powerful techniques, and is a long range style, the stances are much deeper and longer then tkd

i would suggest tiring a class in both and seeing which one you prefer.

|||Actually when you break it down they are very similiar, except TKD rely%26#039;s a little more on kick%26#039;s, unless it%26#039;s Olympic style TKD then it relies a lot more on kicks. TKD was heavily influenced by Shotokan and other Japanese karate%26#039;s. I would say go with whichever one has the best instructor, and offers more of what you are looking for, actual self defense, or sport, etc.|||It is mistaken by most people that it is a style that is better, but really in honesty its the student themselves. Some people train harder, some people dont, some people are fitted better for other styles then other. It depends on you and what would work better with your body and mind|||the karate.the reason karate has both kicks and punches and elbows, etc and tkd is mostly kicking and only a few punches and it has a alot of flashy kicks that dont work|||y not keep taking both?

both are good just better at different things.

neither of them are techniques they are styles.|||There is no such thing as a better fighting style than the other, It all depends on the fighter.|||is not the style but the fighter who counts |||It really depends on what you want to get out of it.... is there one you just like better....it all depends on you....
