What is the difference between taekwondo, kung fu, karate and all the other martial arts?

tae kwondo is basically a korean art that%26#039;s mainly competitive and is more of a sport than a self-defense art. It focuses mainly on kicks and using the legs in relations to the hands. Kung fu on the other hand is a martial art that originated in China and has a variety of techniques that take a while to master. It incorporates both hands and legs Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee (at some point in his life) practiced kung fu. as for other martial arts that%26#039;s general because there are a whole lot: Judo which is mainly ground fight, various japanese arts like shotokan, ishinryu, hapkido, shorinryu, ninjitsu, aikido etc.... each having their own strong points and respective focus as far as techniques and the use of body parts to carry out those techniques.

hope this helped.|||Country of Origin, What they focus on, and What do they mean.

Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Martial Art that means %26quot;The way of the Fist and Feet%26quot; (Tae=Feet, Kwon=Feet,Do=The Way)

Karate is a Japanese/Okinawan Martial Art that means %26quot;Empty Hand%26quot; (Kara=Empty, Te=Hand)

Kung Fu in Chinese Means %26quot;Highest Level of Achievement%26quot;, many people from outside of China thinks its a Chinese Martial Art when its not, people in China say this in means of cooking (e.g. your cooking is kung fu). People say this when you become a master or something you do

In Tae Kwon Do, yes, most of the time its a sport and quite popular nowadays, but way back when and a few exceptions today, its a deadly martial art. When turning this martial art from traditional to practical, meaning picking out the moves that work, your pretty dangerous. IF you notice, its kinda like a Korean version of Karate but emphasize more on kicks due to the reason that Koreans are much taller people than the Japanese and tend to use their legs as reach advantage.

In Karate, Okinawans back then went to China to learn these concepts from the so called %26quot;boxers%26quot; and the Chinese were called back then in order to defend themselves against the Samurai%26#039;s rule over them. Their martial art was called Te (hand) to begin with, then later on was called Karate since they fought without the use of weapons. Reason why, the Samurai banned weapons like swords from the civilians, so this is where the nunchuks, tonfas, and other farm tools were used as weapons, its not that they felt like inventing something crazy, they used what they had

As for the other martial arts, each one has a specialty and origin, traditional as well as practical|||Origin, core concepts, and technique.

Some are mostly strike based like:

Karate is very linear with high strength and poor technique.

Taekwondo is fast, flexible, good strength and moderate technique.

Kungfu (Wushu), is fast, very flexible, excellent technique, but a little short on strength.

and so on.

Some are graple based like:

Juijistsu

Aikido

Tae Kwon Do is a Korean style of karate. The forms and many of the basic techniques are taken from Shotokan Karate from Japan and blended with the ancient techniques of Korean warriors.

In practice, Tae Kwon Do does a lot of concentration on the sport and competitive aspects of martial arts. It is currently an Olympic sport.

|||the main difference is there country of origin even if the fighting style is from a different part of the country another difference is that some of the styles just teach you how to handle yourself in a fight but styles like judo they teach you to move away and only use it if you have no other choice

hope this helps|||i only know about a couple, but tae-kwon-do means hand feet techniques, and is similar to karate but more technical, judo is pretty much all throws, kung fu uses the hands alot more, barely uses kicks.|||they all have different styles of fighting, there are some which the body attacks are harder and some which are softer and also some are more more defence over offence and the opposite way around.|||ROTFL .... this has to be the smartest a** question I%26#039;ve ever seen in answers. That would obviously take a book%26#039;s worth of writing man. C%26#039;mon get real!!|||their spellings?
