Is taekwondo actually good for self defense?

Im a blackbelt and im starting to think its pretty shitty because im trying to learn how to fight, not how to %26quot;score points%26quot; They%26#039;re always like kick higher and they do these flying stuff and you would get the beat down if you tried that in real life... im probably the most practical fighter there because my other tkd instructor before I moved liked to do sorta tkd/mma combo|||it depends on the organization they are apart of: WTF (world tae kwon do federation); tae kwon do -- mostly kicks, ITF (international tae kwon do federation); works with hand and feet. it looks like kick boxing, and ATF (american tae kwon do federation) point sparring.

I guess you have never taken tae kwon do, and have never done your research. Tae Kwon Do is not %26quot;... always like kick higher and they do these flying stuff...%26quot;

SCHOOL %26gt; STYLE|||If your taking it to learn self defense and your instructor is teaching you to triple billion spin flying axe kick to front flip leg sweep double side kick- It%26#039;s probably about time to find another instructor, or look into other styles/schools. Sport orientated training tends to leave you with a serious problem later, unless your in it for the sport.|||Well a lot is your attitude,maybe it%26#039;s time too take on another system,and combine the two.Taekwondo is an excellent style,and when I fought in tournaments I always had it harder knocking those dude%26#039;s out because they could kick like a horse.I am a Goju-Ryu stylist mixed with Krav-Maga,so if I get close your mine.Taekwondist I always had to respect those cat%26#039;s for their kicking durability.TKD/mma combo is an exellent mix.Go with that for a while see if it works for you.if not try Krav-Maga.I hope you find the system that works for you ,good hunting!|||Good points. Points mean nothing in a fight! I train Gracie Jiu Jitsu... and have been doing so for over 5 years. The philosophy is STRICTLY self-defence and I think it is the most complete system out there. In a street fight using all these kicks could cause you to fatigue... something that Vince Lombardi said makes %26quot;cowards of all men.%26quot; |||The real question is, how often do you like to be kicked in the nuts and subsequently dumped on the ground without a clue as to what to do?|||I prefer hapkido, %26quot;dirty%26quot; boxing, and jujitsu.|||Yes it is practical but only if you have an instructor that teaches you to be practical.

|||yes, basically all marital arts are taught for self denfense in their unquie styles, depending on the individual and how much dedication they put in. Chuck norris owns all|||generally no but that also depends on your teacher and what other styles hes done.|||Judo is best for self defense
